Every once in a while, we meet a dog whose story stays with us. King is one of those dogs.
For this HomeLife Community Feature, we are so happy to introduce you to a little Yorkie with a huge personality, an adventurous spirit, and a heart that has taught his family more than he will probably ever know.
Meet King, a 5 year old, 10 pound Parti, tricolor Yorkie who loves deeply, plays hard, and wants to be wherever his favorite people are.
King is energetic, playful, affectionate, and loves meeting people and dogs everywhere he goes. His favorite things are sniff walks, puzzle toys, belly rubs, and, of course, joining his family wherever they go.
But what makes King so special is his resilience.
King lives with chronic conditions including IBD, PLE, and intestinal lymphangiectasia. Despite everything he has faced, he continues to live life with so much happiness and reminds his family every day to appreciate the little moments.
As his family says, King is truly the heart of their family.
And the more we learned about him, the easier it was to understand why.
An Adventure His Family Will Never Forget
One of King’s family’s favorite memories with him was taking him on their family trip to the Philippines.
That trip held a much deeper meaning for everyone because just six months earlier, they had almost lost King.
Being able to bring him halfway around the world felt incredibly special and was something his family never took for granted.
Together, they went island hopping, explored new places, and watched King swim in the ocean. Seeing him experience it all brought his family so much joy.
There is something special about seeing the world through your dog’s eyes, especially when the simplest things become the biggest adventures.
For King, every new sight, smell, and splash in the water was something to get excited about. As long as he was with his hoomans, he was happy.
That trip reminded his family to slow down, live in the moment, and appreciate every memory they get to make together.
The Lessons King Has Taught His Family
For King’s family, loving a dog who lives with a chronic illness has changed the way they look at their time together.
King has taught his mom that dogs do not need much. They just need us and our love.
They do not care about expensive things or perfect plans. They just want to be by our side, whether we are exploring a new island, relaxing at home, or simply sharing a quiet moment together.
Living with King has also taught his family not to take a single day for granted.
Celebrate the good days. Be patient through the difficult ones. Cherish the little moments because they are often the ones that matter most.
As King’s mom beautifully shared:
“Our dogs give us their whole hearts every single day, and they deserve that same love and presence in return.”
It is a lesson that feels especially meaningful when you know everything King and his family have experienced together.
King’s Favorite Place Is Wherever His Family Is
Ask where King is happiest and his family’s answer is simple: anywhere he gets to be with them.
When they are out together, King loves visiting dog friendly beaches, parks, restaurant patios, and community events where he can meet new people and pups.
No matter where they go, King is all about the experience.
He loves sniffing every new scent, making new friends, and taking in the world one adventure at a time.
For King, the destination is not what matters most. It is simply being together with his hoomans.
And there is one very special pup he especially loves having by his side: his grandma’s dog and his bestest furiend ever, Ekin.
Even Ekin’s name carries a special piece of their family story. Ekin was named in honor of their family Yorkie, Nike. Ekin is Nike spelled backwards.
Whether King is meeting someone new, investigating a new smell, spending time with Ekin, or exploring somewhere he has never been before, he is happiest experiencing it all alongside the ones he loves.
A New Bed for King’s Adventures

The more you learn about King, the more you realize that his story is not simply about the places he has traveled or the challenges he has faced.
It is about how much joy he finds in being there for all of it.
The sniff walks. The puzzle toys. The belly rubs. The beaches and restaurant patios. Swimming in the ocean. Making new friends. Adventures with Ekin. Quiet moments at home. And getting to tag along wherever his family goes next.
King’s family has learned through him that you do not need perfect plans to create meaningful memories. Sometimes simply being together is enough.
For a little Yorkie who has been through so much, King continues to approach the world with happiness, curiosity, and a whole lot of love.
And we think there is something all of us can learn from that.
King, we hope there are many more scents to sniff, friends to meet, beaches to explore, belly rubs to enjoy, adventures with Ekin, and trips around the world in your future.
Most of all, we hope there are countless more of those little everyday moments spent exactly where you are happiest: with your hoomans.
